We have a range of different designs and styles from our collection which you can choose from and we can make the formal dress according to your requirements. A custom made ball gown price starts from $250.

Cindy, from Mirrabooka Senior high school came to us with a vision in mind (based on a ball dress we had in our 2015 desses collection) of what she wanted for her school ball dress. We took care of the design, customization and manufacturing of her dress within two months, leaving ample time for alterations if she required.

When we presented Cindy with her ball dress her eyes lit up accompanied by a pleased smile. After Cindy had the chance to try her ball dress and get properly fitted, she was ecstatic.  "The ball dress Envious Fashions created for me was exactly what I had wanted.  I was able to pick the colour of my dress, the jewel colours and where I wanted it on the dress. My measurements were taken and my custom ball dress fitted perfectly, no additional alterations needed. I absolutely love my ball dress and my friends also thought it was beautiful too."

Cindy wanted a white dress with a contrasting feature and in a long flowy dress style. We suggested the classical and flattering sweetheart neckline with padded cups and tapered at the waist to accentuate her petite frame. The embellishments on the dress included an array of beads, sequins around the top of bust and under and cobalt blue colored jewels as Cindy's request against a pleated bust. This custom made evening dress's fabric composition is chiffon with satin underlay lining and an invisible back zipper.

Hang in there! You're on your way to almost finishing the preparation stages of your ball dress shopping journey. The hard yard of shopping for your school ball dress, shoes, clutch, jewelleries and accessories are done. Now onto the last part of the equation…getting your beauty and makeup look sorted.

Keep reading to find out the best school ball beauty tips and tricks to ensure you look your absolute best without the hassle and of course, shortcuts to make your life easier and stress free!

Beauty & Skincare

Beautiful makeup starts off with the canvas, meaning your face. To ensure a complete flawless makeup look, it is important to give your skin a little bit of TLC a few months prior by having a good diet of plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. If you have this covered, the cosmetic things you can do include getting into a cleansing routine a week before your school ball (if you have been doing this routine regularly, even better!). Why cleanse? This is one of the easiest and most inexpensive way to maintain a healthy looking and glowing skin. It is the building block to a healthy and vibrant skincare regime. Cleansing removes excess oils, dirt and impurities that have built up on your skin. By cleansing, you’re effectively removing these layer impurities that cause your skin to look dull. Cleansing also prepares your skin as a smooth canvas for makeup to go on better. You can also opt to follow up cleansing with a toner however this step is not necessarily required.

Exfoliation is another key in revealing radiant and beautiful skin.  You should aim to exfoliate twice a week with a gentle scrub to give you that gorgeous glow. Some of the benefits of exfoliation include;

  • Detoxifies the skin to slough away dead, dull skin cells
  • Brightens the complexion to reveal healthier skin
  • Improves the skin tone
  • Kills bacteria and helps prevent breakouts
  • Improves the quality of your skin and allows products such as moisturizers and makeup to go on more smooth and flawlessly

There are endless brands on the supermarket shelves of facial scrubs but you can seriously whip up a good homemade face scrub from the ingredients in your kitchen! Try a brown sugar honey face scrub which consists of only the ingredients as the name suggests. It is all natural, chemical free, smells divine and super cheap! Just mix together 1 tablespoon of honey with 1 tablespoon of brown or raw sugar and store in an airtight glass container.

How to use? Wash your face well and apply a small amount (about a teaspoon) of the scrub mixture onto your face and gently massage gently into your skin in a circular motion.

The night before your school ball you can also consider applying a face mask to really bring out the glow. It is a quick and easy beauty step that only involves a few minutes to apply and then you wait 10-15 minutes to let the mask work it’s magic. Commercial face masks are available in individual sachets and bottles. Or you can go the alternative route and do as you did for the facial scrub and make your own face mask. There are plenty of easy recipes available online which you can make for your DIY face mask. Depending on your skin type, you should pick the appropriate mask type to really reap the benefits. If you have dry skin, try this hydrating recipe consisting of half a very ripe avocado and a quarter cup of honey. Mash the avocado in a bowl and stir in the honey. Apply to your skin and leave on for 5-10 minute and rinse off with water. For the girls with oily skin and prone to blemishes, try this simple DIY face mask recipe. This recipe calls for one egg white, half a teaspoon lemon juice and one third teaspoon turmeric powder. Whisk the egg white in a small bowl until it turns frothy. Add in the lemon juice and turmeric powder and stir well. Apply the mixture to your face and allow it to sit on your skin for 10-15 minutes. This will allow for the properties to penetrate into the skin. When you feel the mask has completely dried, wash off with warm water and repeat with another wash to remove all residue traces of the mask. Pat your face dry and you will have glowing and super soft skin.

The egg white is rich in vitamins and proteins that help nourish the skin and also work to minimize oiliness on the face.

The lemon juice has natural antibacterial properties that are very effective at killing bacteria and reducing clogged pores. The turmeric powder has anti-inflammatory properties that help with inflamed acne and also absorbs excess oil to prevent shine and reduces the appearance of large pores.

To complete your look perfectly, your makeup is an important element to get right. There are loads of different make up looks such as vintage inspired, bold, soft and natural or simple and elegant.

Read on to gather some expert tips on getting your makeup right and look smashing for your school ball.

Ball makeup tip #1: Pick only one facial feature to play up

The worst thing is to overdo your makeup and look somewhat like a clown rather than the glam princess you had envisioned. The simplest way to pick a makeup look is to decide whether you want to focus on your lips or your eyes. To create a perfect balance, you focus on one feature and downplay the rest. For example, if you decide on focusing on your eyes with a bold and dramatic eye makeup look, you should ensure your cheek and lip colour is very subtle. This works the same way if you wanted to go for a bold bright lip colour, ensure to go understated on the eye makeup.

Ball makeup tip #2: To match or to not?

A lot of girls would opt to match their eye shadow to their ball dress but there is no reason to not do so. If you aren't a fan of coloured eye shadow or find this look too overdone, you can always pick a neutral shade such as browns, taupes, beiges, golds that flatter every skin tone.

Ball makeup tip #3: Pick the right foundation base and colour

If you are getting your ball makeup done by a professional, you're pretty much set to go. However if you decide to do your own makeup, it is important to get the basis of the makeup routine right.

One of the biggest and common makeup mistakes is not choosing the right foundation colour. This can be pretty disastrous.  The perfect foundation colour should blend seamlessly into your skin when applied. Apply a small amount to your chin and jaw line and blend in well. If the colour "disappears" then you have found a good colour match. You should also consider choosing the right foundation for your skin type. For example, if you have dry skin, pick a foundation that offers hydrating benefits. You don't want your foundation to look flaky when it doesn't adhere to your dry skin! For the girls with oilier skin, pick a foundation that mattifies and have oil absorbing properties to avoid looking shinier than the disco ball lights!

Another very important tip is to ensure the moisturizer and foundation you will be wearing for your school ball does not contain SPF. Products with SPF rating have active ingredients such as titanium dioxide that will give off a white sheen and make light bounce off with photography flash. This will make you appear a few shades lighter, if not ghostly white!

Ball makeup tip #4: Prime your skin

They key to helping your makeup last throughout the evening is to prepare by skin by applying a primer to your skin prior to foundation. The primer works to smooth out fine lines and pores and create a smooth canvas for your makeup application. You can also prime your eyes to get more staying power for your eye shadow.

Ball makeup tip #5: Start your makeup preparation early

Avoid any unexpected mini makeup disasters by allowing ample time to apply your makeup. While you may not experience anything drastic but a little bit of extra time will give you the opportunities to fix up any smudges or start over if necessary.

Ball makeup tip #6: Prepare your face and your evening clutch bag

If you have oily skin, be prepared at the stage of putting on your makeup and also during your school ball. After you have applied your foundation, dust a light layer of translucent powder over your entire face. This will help to keep the oiliness at bay for a few hours. Keep a stash of blotting paper or pressed powder in your evening clutch for touch ups throughout the night.

Take some inspiration from these makeup looks for your school ball.

Ball Shoes

Buying your school ball shoes is probably a more exciting experience than buying a new pair of shoes on a normal occasion. School ball shoes can be as fancy or as conventional as you like.

The ideal time to buy your school ball shoes depends on how certain you are of the type of shoes you want and the ball dress style and colour you will purchase. If you decide to buy your ball shoes first, it is great because you can bring your shoes along to your fittings of your ball dress. If you want to wait until after you have picked your ball gown and then buy your shoes, this is perfectly fine too. This second option allows for you buy your shoes according to your dress and match perfectly.

When shopping for your ball shoes, look for stylishness AND comfort. There is no point buying that fabulous pair of high heels but it becomes and absolute nightmore to walk in and gives you excruciating blisters and pains. Look for shoes that you can move around freely and comfortably in. If you think you will be out on the dancefloor a lot, also keep this in mind on the comfort factor with your shoe choices. Also consider the height of the ball shoes you will buy. Some girls may be quite comfortable with towering stiletto high heels but if you're not into that, a modest lower heel of about 4-5cm will be much more comfortable.

Ball shoes tips;
  • As a general rule, choose shoes that are either the same tone or darker than your ball dress.
  • While black shoes/heels are a great choice for darker coloured ball gowns, it may not be the best choice for lighter coloured or pastel ball dresses. Best colour options for these lighter dresses, consider gold, silver or nude coloured shoes.
  • If you dress is on the rather fancy side with an intricate design, lots of sequins, beading, embellishments or embroidery, it is best to stick to simplistic ball shoes such as sling backs or open toed pumps. If your   dress is on the simplistic side and is of a shorter length, play up your look with ball shoes that have more straps and detailing such as rhinestones, diamantes or motifs.
  • If you're not a regular high heel shoe wearer, practice wearing your ball shoes a week or so before your school ball day. This will give you an indication of how comfortable you will be in your shoes and give you time to get accustomed to the fit and wear. Closer to the day, you may also like to consider wearing your full ball attire of your ball dress and shoes together as a trial fitting.
  • Lastly, if you are opting for open toed shoes, don't forget about getting a pedicure! You can choose to match your toe polish to your ball dress or shoes. The traditional French manicure is always timeless and sophisticated so that is always a fail proof option. If you are planning to doing the pedicure yourself, make sure to do it a couple of days earlier to ensure there is no rush and your polish is streak smudge free!

Ball Jewellery & Accessories

When choosing your jewellery and accessories to go with your ball dress, always ensure that it is coordinated well to compliment your gown. When picking jewellery, head pieces and clutches, ensure that the gemstones, diamantes, crystals and embellishments are of the same sheen when coordinating the overall look. If your dress is on the simplistic side with little or no sparkling details, you are pretty open to choose any sheen to go with your dress. However, if your dress is of a specific colour, consider matching the same sheen such as gold with gold, silver with silver etc. Gold tones compliment coloured dresses while silver brings out pastel colours beautifully.

Earrings & Necklaces

The style of earrings are pretty much endless however it depends on your hairstyle and the adornments from the neckline of your ball dress. If you have a lot of embroideries and detailing from your neckline and shoulder regon, it is better to opt for some more dainty and delicate earring styles. On the opposing hand, if the top of your ball dres is strapless or a sweetheart neckline with minimal details, you are more flexible to go for larger, sparkly and statement kind of earring designs.

Another thing to consider when choosing earrings is how you will be styling your hair. You don't want your hairstyle and earrings to be competiting with one another for the spotlight. The aim is to seamlessly compliment your hair with your earrings and ultimately, your dress. For example. if you are going for a volumous hairstyle it is best to stick to a pair of earrings that is dazzling but more on the simple side. If you are going for a classic and simple updo hairstyle, a flashier pair of earrings can work. You should also consider the colours of the earrings you choose. This also comes down to your dress colour and style. If your dress is within the neutral palette picking earrings with coloured jewels and gems will bring out the neutral tones of the dress nicely. On the other hand, if your dress is coloured go for earrings that are of the same tones to balance and complimejnt the overall colour scheme.

Again, picking a necklace will depend on how much details you have on your ball dress. The rule of thumb to go by is balance. Pick a necklace with size and length that compliments your hairstyle and ball dress. Generally, short jewelled necklaces work with most strapless or sweetheart neckline ball dresses. For dresses with deeper or plunge necklines, longer necklaces help enhance the flow and look of the dress.

Strapless, sweetheart and strappy style ball gowns are commonly the popular dress choices so a shorter and glitzy necklace works very well to enhance the look of the dress. Depending on how much detailing there is on your ball dress, a classic and very versatile choice together are jewellery sets which compromise of matching earrings and necklace. It makes the process of process of choosing the two jewelleries very easy while providing a synchronized look of matching earrings and necklaces. For the strapless, sweetheart and strappy style ball gowns, the earrings and necklace sets work to balance your overall look very nicely.

Bracelets & Rings

Bracelets and rings are a suitable addition to your look if you aren't opting for necklaces and earrings. Again, the key is balance so it is recommended to either go for earrings and necklcaes or the other option of bracelets and rings. You can also go the route of having a combination of necklace andbracelet or necklace, bracelet and ring if the mix of jewellery pieces are dainty and works well with the overall look of your dress. Remember if you are going to pick a "heavy" piece of jewellery; let's say, a very detailed necklace with lots of jewels and stones it would work best for your look to opt for a delicate bracelet and/or ring. Another thing to keep in mind is a corsage you may be wearing from your date. If so, you may want to reconsider wearing a bracelet at all.

Remember to keep your choice of rings delicate to create harmony against your overall look i fyou choose to go more statement jewellery pieces with necklaces and bracelets. Small, dainty double rings or jewelled rings look quite glam if chosen correctly. Silver diamante or rhinestone encrusted rings are always flattering, timeless and feminine.

Evening Clutch

The final touch to your ball dress is the evening clutch. They come in all sorts of different shapes and sizes from the classic rectangular to the small and compact oval styles. Most evening clutches come with some sort of embellishments such as gemstones, rhinestones, diamantes, crystals or some combination of these.

The choice of clutch bags will also depend on how you have decided to accessorize with your jewellery and also your dress detailing. Compliment your entire look by matching your clutch bag to the tone of your jewelleries or ball dress.

Part 4: Finding the Best Bra For Your Ball Dress

So, you've found your dream formal dress. Great work! As important as finding the perfect formal dress it is also just as important to find undergarments that look good with your formal gown. You wouldn't want to ruin a beautiful evening dress with unsightly and unattractive underwear would you? Probably not. The next step is to search for the most suitable undergarments including a well fitting bra and underwear to go with your dress. A regular everyday bra is not likely not suitable for wear with your ball gown so you will need to spend some time to shop for a bra that not only looks great with your ball dress but also one that you will be comfortable wearing for the duration of the night.

Ball dresses come in a variety of different necklines; strapless, halter neck, spaghetti straps, plunge neckline, backless, one shoulders etc. One of the most versatile bras is the strapless bra. This goes well with all the aforementioned formal dress types except for backless styles. In this case, we bring to your attention the modern version of the strapless bra: the stick on push up bra.

ball dresses styles necklines

We highly recommend this adhesive push up bra for its versatility to be worn with almost any style of evening gown.

adhesive push up bras

Get the stick on push up bras $25.00 (pre-orders)

Here are some great features of the stick on push up bra;

stick on push up bra

  • Strapless: suitable to wear with any ball dress style that requires bra straps to be hidden (i.e halter neck, sweetheart neckline, asymmetrical styles).
  • Backless: The wing extends to either sides of the body whilst leaving the back bare, being perfect for a backless ball gown.
  • Seamless: Discreet and blends effortlessly under your dress with no visibility of outlines.
  • Ultra lightweight: Weighing in at only a super light 60g, the stick on push up bra is much lighter (therefore does not weigh you down) and more comfortable to wear than the traditional silicon adhesive bras.
  • Built in support: Built in underwire provides additional support, even for girls with a bigger chest.
  • Flattering balconette bra half cups: The ultimate flattering bra cup style that suits almost every bust size whilst providing support.
  • Light padding: For that extra push up oomph to create a sexy and alluring cleavage.
  • Washable & reusable: Easily hand washable with just warm water and soap. Leave to air dry and the adhesive will regenerate itself to be used again. This bra can last up to 50 uses.
  • Hypoallergenic* adhesive: This adhesive push up stick on bra is made from breathable cotton and spandex material that does not irritate skin and stays on all day.**

Another convenient and versatile option is silicone nipple pasties. While these don’t typically offer a lot of support, they are great if your ball dress already offers the support of padded cups. The silicone nipple covers come in handy to prevent any accidental nip slip flash. Small, lightweight and discreet, the nipple pasties are ideal if you don’t want the extra bulk of wearing a bra under your dress if it has in built bra cups or padding.

silicone nipple covers

Get the silicone nipple pasties for $6.95 (available online now)

Lastly, while panties may not play as big of a factor as a well-fitting and comfortable bra, it is important to choose one that will be invisible under your ball dress. Too tight undies can cause unflattering lumps and bulges through which may be detectible through your dress. Opt for a pair of seamless skin coloured underwear that goes well with any ball gown style and colour. Not only are seamless undies great to hide visible panty lines. A highly versatile and comfortable option, seamless undies come in a range of style such as high cut, bikini cut and G-string.

While on the topic of choosing the right underwear, there has been an increase in the interest of creating a sexy silhouette from behind. Traditionally girls wanted to enhance their cleavage but with the emergence of interest in a full and perky behind has created a series of inquiries about how to get a great butt like Kim Kardashian, Beyonce and J.Lo.

* Not recommended for people with super sensitive skin or worn on broken or sunburnt skin. ** Under normal wear

Shopping for your school ball dress is exciting and many girls eagerly anticipate the process of looking around for that perfect ball dress for their formal. So it’s obvious to explore all the avenues where ball dresses are available. Online shopping sites are often a point of consideration when looking for school ball dresses. Shopping for prom and formal dresses can be expensive so it’s fair that looking online for the best possible deals is a possibility. There’s no shortage of online stores selling formal dresses and at cheap prices but in this guide we wanted to share with you a few pointers on shopping safely for your ball dress with online boutiques and stores.

There are lots of counterfeit websites out there that use the real brand’s dress photos as their own to bait you into purchasing and thinking it’s the real product, with the price only being a fraction of a proper prom gown value. Unfortunately the beautiful product photos combined with the attractive price makes it winning combination to make girls hit the buy now button. From there, it’s just a nightmare! There are so many horror stories our customers have shared with us on their purchases prior to buying their ball dresses from us. The stories vary from girls ordering their dresses only to receive an almost unrecognizable dress when it arrived. The gowns resembling nothing like the picture, the colour was off, the stitching was messy, the style being horrendous. For some of the girls, they were scammed completely of their purchase in the sense that they did not receive their ball dresses at all. Even after trying to contact the company to get a response, no such luck. There was no way of getting a refund!

Here we share some of our customer’s online shopping horror experiences for their ball dreses.

Here is Julie’s story.

“I was super excited to look for that perfect ball dress for my final high year school ball. My friends and I had been talking about school ball dresses for over four months and when it came closer to the date to look for ball dresses, we could hardly wait to start the process! We were all on a relatively tight budget (less than $250) and after looking around at the local boutique stores we weren’t able to find anything within our price range and styles we liked. We then decided to go online and look at what the online stores had to offer. To our delight we came across this one website and fell in love with all their styles immediately! Their designs were so beautiful and I had a hard time choosing only one dress! Their ball dresses were priced within our budget and the one I was looking to buy was just a little short of $250. Without thinking twice I clicked on the buy now and paid for my dress. I was notified with an email that I would receive my dress in two weeks’ time. A fortnight passed and I still didn’t receive my dress but I persisted to wait a few more days before contacting them. When I tried to contact them, they were rather rude and said I was being too impatient and the dress would arrive soon enough. A month later, the dress hadn’t arrived and when I contacted the online store again, I was once again given a very rude reply. The following week my ball dress arrived and to my complete disappointment and shock, the dress was NOTHING like the picture or how I’d imagined. The beading was loosely sewn on the dress, the dress had scruff marks, there were loose threads on the dress at the seams and the fabric was utterly appalling. I took one look at “my dress” and I knew I had been scammed. So I was left with an unwearable ball dress that I eventually threw out as it was just too ugly to give away or do anything else with it.” – Julie, Bunbury, Perth, WA.

Here is Maddy’s story.

“I have always been an avid online shopper so it came as second nature to shop for my prom dress online. I knew the basics about being prepared and allowing time when ordering online due to long shipping times, especially from overseas websites. I ordered my dress for a website I came across while searching for a strapless ball dress. The site had a good range and I found a red strapless ball dress that I really liked and ordered it immediately. The dress was quite cheap, being only $160 but the shipping cost a bit more, $92.50. Although the shipping was a bit expensive the website stated that it was for express shipping so I didn’t mind. I was quite upset as ended up waiting for two months to finally get my dress. During the waiting time I tried to contact the seller but I never even one reply! I tried again for another month but I had lost hope that I would get anything from them back. As expected, I never did. This has taught me a valuable lesson to do a more research into my online purchases. Better to be safe than sorry but sadly in this instance for me, it was unfortunately sorry. – Maddy, Fremantle, Perth, WA.

These are our customer stories however there is no shortage of other customers who have shared their stories online about their experiences with having a nightmare ball dress buying experience.

ball-dress-buying-online-horror-stories   prom-dresses-horro-stories

It is unfortunate our customers had to go through such a bad experience before coming to us for their school ball dresses. It’s upsetting to know these counterfeit companies exist and pry on innocent customer whilst giving legitimate online ball dress boutiques and businesses a bad rap.

If you do decide to go down the path of getting your formal dress online, here are a few tips to keep in mind.

  • Do a bit of research on the company’s background. Do you have customer testimonials? Do they have social media accounts? Do they reply to you promptly and professionally? These are just some of the basic points to note when dealing with online sellers.
  • Check the product image that it does not belong to another store. You can go to Google images and do a quick search if there is another picture that looks similar to the dress listed on the website. Generally if the website is overseas and have contact details from China, be sure to be vigilant about your purchase. There have been many reported incidences where the Chinese websites don’t have any actual or real photos of their dresses on models but they take photos from original designers and owners of the photos to use for their site. They claim to sell the exact same style (or even offer to let you customize your dress with sizing and colours).
  • Be aware of the shipping costs. The dress may be listed for a very low price but the shipping costs can be two to three times the amount of the dress! Don’t justify the expensive shipping for the cheap dress as an overall cost because it’s just a scam waiting to happen!

While there are a lot of dodgy websites out there selling evening gowns and dresses, there are also legit online boutiques that are authentic retailers and carry a range of beautiful and affordable ball gowns. You just need to do a bit of background research on them such as check out their contact details and where they are located. Remember to be cautious with giving out your credit card details over the internet and if the dress or deal is too good to be true, it probably is! Trying to save some money in this instance is just not worth being completely conned! Counterfeit websites have been reported but there are still many out there still operating and continue to rip people off. Online website, Top Prom Websites has enlisted a comprehensive list of prom dresses websites that have been reported as scamming sites so check out the page for a list of dodgy websites and avoid buying your ball dress from any of those listed websites.

There are benefits of shopping in store for your ball gowns. First of all, you are in local vicinity which enables you to know they are a legit operating business. This means you are able to see the store, employees and importantly, the dress before you commit to purchase. You will also get to touch and feel the quality of the material and see the craftsmanship of your potential ball dress. All these things are important in the process of choosing and buying your dream ball gown.

Shopping for ball gowns is one of the most exciting part about the school ball. In the search for the perfect ball gown amongst the sea of evening gowns out there, it can be overwhelming to pick "the one".

In Part 2 of The Ultimate Guide To Ball Dress Shopping, we will help you shop for and pick the best and perfect ball gown with useful styling advice and tips.

This event is one of the most highly anticipated events in the social calendar. It is a night you will remember for many years to come being that it marks a milestone in your school years. In this perspective, it makes perfect sense that every girl wants to look their absolute best in finding the perfect ball dress.

In preparation for the big event, it would be best to give yourself plenty of time (up to 3 months) to think about, look and shop around for your evening gown. This will give you ample time to search and look amongst all the available formal gowns that you will consider to suit your style and budget.

Before you embark on this exciting journey of shopping around for that perfect ball gown, first determine what your body shape is. In doing this, it will help you pick the right fit for your body type to conceal the body parts you don’t like whilst highlighting and accentuating your best features.

Ball Gowns For Rectangular Shaped Body

Think Kate Middleton, Nicole Kidman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson, Cameron Diaz and Jessica Biel.

A rectangular shape is characterized by a long and lean physique. You will want to create the illusion of more curves and a fuller figure. You can achieve this by choosing a sweetheart ball gown that emphasizes your bust and tapers down to a waist defining style.

This body shape is one of the easier body shapes to dress for and is often associated with an athletic or runway model type. A rectangular shape is distinguished by;

  • You have a well balanced upper and lower body; hips and shoulders are similar widths
  • You have no defined waist
  • Not a lot of curves
  • Your bust size is small or average
  • Small to flattish butt

Ball Gowns For Pear Shaped Body

Think Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera and Rihanna.

To flatter a pear shape body add the illusion of volume to the upper part of your body around your bust area whilst emphasizing your small waist and drawing attention away from the lower portion of your body to create a good balance between the top and bottom parts of your body. Choose a ball gown that has ruffles and detailing around the bust area and is more slim line once it hits the waist area and flows gently from the hips down.

The pear body shape (also sometimes referred to as a triangle) is more lower body dominant than upper body with;

  • Hips are larger than your bust
  • You have proportionately slim arms and shoulders
  • You first gain and carry your weight in the bottom half of your legs and butt, then tummy and then your upper body
  • The proportion of your bust and hips make your waist look small, making it one of your best assets!

Ball Gowns For Hourglass Shaped Body

Think Kim Kardshian, Khloe Kardashian, Liz Hurley, Sofia Vergara and Jessica Simpson.

This body shape looks fabulous with form fitting ball gowns so deep V neck and sweetheart necklines in combination with waist and hip hugging style will show off your lady curves perfectly.

The hourglass is the most sought after body shape! It is defined by;

  • Your bust and hips are proportionally balanced with one another
  • You have a defined waist and curves out to your hips
  • Your shoulders are nicely rounded with your hips
  • You have a rounded butt
  • You have shapely legs
  • Your upper and lower body are proportionally the same lengths that creates balance

Ball Gowns For Petite Shaped Body

Think Eva Longoria, Selena Gomez, Hayden Panettiere, Rachel Bilson and Nicole Ritchie.

Being of a petite shape means you want to amplify your curves  up a notch so look for ball dresses that have ruffles or texture on the bust area to create the illusion of a more ample chest. If you're not a fan of ruffles or detailing then an alternative is look for a sweetheart neckline that not only is universally flattering but looks great on a petite frame. Wear a push up bra underneath your dress to create some killer cleavage. Avoid any formal dresses that are too loose and flowing to avoid looking "lost" in the fabric. Opt for a formal dress that is fitted to create more curves in both your bust, waist and hips and height.

The petite body type is identified with a short frame and slender frame. You have a petite body if;

  • Your height is less than 160cm
  • You have a slender and lean frame
  • You have minimal curves in both your top and lower body

So now that you have identified your body shape, it's time to kick off and start the journey of shopping for your ball gown! The world of formal dresses and gowns is your oyster so stay tuned for Part 3 of this series of The Ultimate Guide To Ball Dress Shopping as we explore the options of shopping for your ball gown online or in store.
